Jim grew up in Bermuda - further more, he grew up on his boat, Troubadour, built by his father - who was also a fisherman and Captain. Following in his father’s footsteps - Captain Jim has twenty years of experience and offers a unique fishing and boating experience to his clients.

Did you know - Cap’t Jim is also a well known cricket player? He used to play for Bailey’s Bay & for Bermuda’s National Team. He was the Captain of “West XI” for over ten years in Bermuda’s Evening League before retiring from the position in 2024. Although, he still gets down to the field to bowl/bat every now and then.

Co-Owner, Manager, & Fisherwoman

When Melanie is not on board, she is running the “business side” of Early Bird Charters. She is active in Bermuda’s Fishing Community and is a member on the “Commercial Fishing Council” as well as the “Spiny Lobster Fishery Sub Committee”.

Prior to moving to Bermuda in 2013, Melanie grew up in the Washington D.C. area and lived in Portland, Maine. Her father’s family - the Fianders - hail from Bocabec & St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick, where they have worked (and still do work) in the fishing industry for over 150 years.

Did you know - Melanie also works as a photographer under her company, Fiander Foto and teaches photography online with UCSD.
